Shirley Bossert

Herbal Medicine Educator

About Me

Hi, I’m Shirley Bossert — a Master Herbalist, natural health practitioner, and passionate educator dedicated to reconnecting people with the healing power of plants.

I hold three Herbalist Diplomas and am a proud graduate of Wildrose College of Herbal Medicine, where I studied traditional herbal wisdom, plant chemistry, and holistic healing techniques. I’m registered with the Alberta Herbalist Association and a member of the American Herbalists Guild, continually expanding my knowledge and staying connected with the broader herbal community.

In my day-to-day work, I serve as the owner and lead practitioner at the Edson Pain Relief and Wellness Centre, where I support clients through personalized herbal protocols and P.E.M.F. (Pulsed Electromagnetic Field) therapy. My approach combines science-backed techniques with time-honored traditions to support whole-body wellness.

Whether I’m in the clinic, the classroom, or the garden, my goal is always the same: to empower others with the knowledge, confidence, and curiosity to take their health into their own hands — naturally.

Teaching Approach or Philosophy

My teaching philosophy centers on empowerment through knowledge — I believe that herbal medicine is a deeply personal and accessible practice that anyone can learn and benefit from. I strive to create a welcoming, inclusive, and interactive learning environment where students feel encouraged to explore, ask questions, and connect with the plants and their healing properties on their own terms.

I combine traditional herbal wisdom with modern science, making complex botanical concepts understandable and relevant for learners at all levels. My approach is hands-on and practical, emphasizing real-world skills like harvesting, preparation, and safe use of herbs, so students can confidently apply what they learn in everyday life.

Above all, I teach with respect for nature and sustainability, encouraging ethical harvesting and thoughtful stewardship of our plant allies. My goal is to inspire curiosity, deepen connection to the natural world, and support lifelong learning on the path to holistic health.

We’ve done a lot of online courses, but this one stood out. Shirley made herbal medicine fascinating and approachable for my 13-year-old. She’s now making herbal teas for the whole family and teaching me about adaptogens! It’s been a beautiful bonding experience.

I wasn’t sure if this class would hold my son’s attention, but I was blown away. Every week he came to the table with notes, herb samples, and questions about how plants affect the body. He’s gained real knowledge—and confidence. Worth every penny.

My 12-year-old has always loved nature, so I signed her up on a whim. She’s now drying herbs in her room and even labeled jars in the kitchen! The class was in-depth but still accessible, and I appreciated how respectful and encouraging Shirley was with the kids.
